Trangia Mini

Had the Mini for a couple of years, used it many times.
It is my ‘always take’ cookset when biking or walking.
Perfect for making a Brew or warming up Noodles, Soup etc.
Its a shame my Micro doesn’t fit neatly inside to make a more complete cookset.
Love my Mini Trangia, it’s been on many many adventures with me and is battered, blackened, but still fantastic. I did really dislike the tinny little pot handle, which always felt like I’d spill boiling water on myself. I upgraded to the standard Trangia handle which fits perfectly in the pot with the other bits when it’s all packed away. It barely weighs more, so would be a great improvement if Trangia would do away with the rubbishy handle and include the proper one.
I’ve had my Trangia Mini since 2007 and I still love it. The pan has a well used look, the non-stick coating on the frying pan has a couple of small scratches at the closure point but is otherwise still in good order and the brass burner functions like new even though it is bruised and tarnished. It’s the perfect stove for multi-day motorcycle adventures or overnight hiking. I’ve tried slightly lighter options, however I always return to this kit for it’s ability to make a proper meal on the track or trail. My only request to Trangia would be to redesign the post stand somehow to allow full/partial opening of the simmer ring and provide better wind protection. For the size, weight, reliability, versatility and price it’s difficult to beat the Trangia Mini.
I purchased my mini couple of years ago and never really used it.
Last year I started taking it on pilgrimages, instead of my kerosene or gas cylinder stoves. I found that burning alcohol was more available than gas tins or even kerosene sometimes.
Yes, it takes a while to boil my morning coffee/tea but with an egg or bacon in the lid at the same time…..this set is quite a little wonder.
Now I even take it to work with me.
Perfect kit for bicycle users. It doesn’t occupy precious trunk bag’s space and it is lightweight. An aluminum foil used for windshield greatly increases the efficiency. Do not forget to simmer when frying something with little oil or fill the pan with oil to fast fry something. The only downside is that the teflon coating around the notches scratches due to friction however this is not something to worry about. I have cut two leather pieces, one under the burner assembly and the other in the fry pan in order to eliminate the scratches and rattle noised when cycling.
